Boosting Creative Confidence
In the age of “undo,” and “take it back if you don’t like it,” consequences for minor lapses in judgment or error have virtually ceased to exist. This diminishes a person’s chance to learn how to deal with mistakes and move on from failure before the consequences become too grave and terrifying to risk trying anything at all.
When provided with ample low-stakes opportunities to experiment with various sorts of materials, people can work through their fear of making mistakes and failure. Though most often experienced during childhood, there is no established “best” time for a person to begin their creative phase.
It’s never too late to try something new.
Being able to roll with and build on mistakes is not easy. The creative process is full of dead ends, unforgiving decisions, and frustrating tangles that can feel impossible to work through. These all require different skills that everyone should have a chance to experiment with.
Additionally, the prevailing stigma that working with your hands or being artistically creative is somehow reserved for “low-class” or low-intellect” people has terrified many would-be wonderful creators into being unable to express themselves at all.
If you want to see new creations, let people create them.
Caretaker’s creative pop ups are presently paused.
For a warmly welcoming creative space to try your hand at something new, check out Brewtifully any time or stop by Cantonology during First Friday each month for a free make and take crafting experience.
